GARDEN ROUTE RALLY SPECTATOR INFORMATION 26 AND 27 AUGUST 2011
The 2011 Garden Route Rally is the first National Rally back in this area after an absence of
17 years.
A very big THANK YOU to all the Forest Landowners for affording us the privilege to host our event in
these awesome plantations.
Summary of Spectator Guide
PLAN YOUR ROUTE IN ADVANCE
The Stage number, name, length and estimated start time for the first car will be the heading of each
spectating point.
Next will be a brief description of the viewing point followed by a detailed instruction how to get to your
destination. Please note that there is more than one instruction on how to get to the following stage.
GPS coordinates are supplied for your reference only.
Safe spectating and we hope you enjoy your event.
Please obey marshals' instructions, they are there for your safety!!
Drive safely as law enforcement will be monitored for ALL rally and spectator traffic.
Assist rally cars to pass you on the roads as they are pressed for time.
Drive responsibly and be courteous to other road users.
THE DO'S AND DO NOT'S OF THIS RALLY
DO as the Marshals request you to do.
DO adhere to the traffic regulations and speeds as set out at all times.
DO NOT enter and deviate from the route in the forest. Spectating ONLY as per these
instructions.
DO NOT throw your cigarette butts out of the car window or on the ground without ensuring it is
put out.
DO NOT make open fires / open flames in the forest. You are in a very precious area. Appreciate
it.
DO NOT block the roads at any time. Always keep the roads open for emergency vehicles.
DO NOT litter. Make use of the litter bins along the road and service parks.
Also be warned that rally cars tyres kick up stones, it is the nature of their tyres.

FRIDAY - DAY 1 - SECTION 1
PRE START HOLDING AREA 09:00 to 12:00 at GARDEN ROUTE MALL, GEORGE
From Port Elizabeth / Knysna to Start Ramp, Garden Route Mall George
Follow N2 through Wilderness. At N2/Cape Town split (Exit 437) keep right on N9/N12 to
George/Oudtshoorn. 1st Robot turn LEFT into Garden Route Mall.
From Cape Town to Start Ramp Garden Route Mall George
From Cape Town : Follow N2 to George. Straight on (Exit 425) - Airport
From Airport : Exit airport and turn RIGHT (R404 Heraldsbay). Join N2/George.
Both : Keep LEFT - Exit 437 George/Oudtshoorn. Yield - LEFT. 1st Robot turn LEFT into Garden
Route Mall.
STAGE 1 - DESTINY AFRICA 1st car : 12h11 Stage 3.74km GPS : S33º59.317' E22º30.016'

On the far right hand side and behind Fruit & Veg you can stand at the palisade fence and watch the cars
go pass you from the start of the stage until they cross the bridge at the N2
STAGE 2 (FRIDAY) AND STAGE 8 (SATURDAY) - NO SPECTATING
STAGE 3 - BEERVLEI 1st car : 13h43 Stage 18.86km GPS : S33º55.437' E22º43.617'
You will see cars coming from the front making an extreme hairpin to the left.
Exit the Mall at the McDonalds exit. (GEORGE)

0.21 Robot. Turn RIGHT to Knysna and proceed with N2 towards Knysna
1.35 Join N2. 80 kph - Beware CAMERAS

8.30 Signpost Wilderness - 60 kph. STRAIGHT on
9.50 80 kph
12.30 Turn LEFT (Hoekwil) 80 kph

26.30 Bergplaas. STRAIGHT on. (Only rally cars to left for start and end of stages)
NO ENTRY FOR SPECTATORS
31.00 Turn LEFT onto gravel road (Beervlei) 40 kph CAUTION!! CHILDREN AND ANIMALS.
Switch headlights on.
33.10 Slow. Forest Station. You may park here. Switch headlights off.
FROM KNYSNA
Follow N2 towards George. Just before Wilderness turn RIGHT to Hoekwil and follow instructions as
above from 14.70
STAGE 4 - MTO KARATARA 1st car : 15h20 Stage 18.22km GPS : S33º54.983' E22º50.018'
You will see the cars coming from the front in a 90 left and turn a 90 right in front of you.
From stage 3 return to tar road. 40 kph - Slow please !! Switch headlights on.
0.00 ZERO trip and turn LEFT onto tar
2.40 STRAIGHT on (Ruigtevlei)
2.60 80 kph and onto gravel road
4.50 CAUTION : Cattle crossing
6.20 Start Hoogekraal pass
7.70 CAUTION : Narrow bridge
9.20 Onto tar
10.20 Onto gravel
13.15 Onto tar. STRAIGHT on (Sedgefield)
14.40 60 kph
14.70 Turn LEFT (Karatara) 60 kph Please do not Block the road !!!!!!
14.80 Service park IN on RHS. Straight on. You can park in this road and walk to the service park or
continue to roadblock on the next corner to spectate. Switch headlights off.
STAGE 5 – KNYSNA 1st car : 17h50 Stage 0.61km GPS : S34º02.350' E23º02.999'
This will be the only tar stage of the event.
Cars will do 2 loops around the Municipal Offices in spectacular sideways drifting.
You will be able to spectate at any point of the stage, but please adhere to the Marshals
that will ensure that it is safe.
Return the way you came, past the service park to the T-junction. CAUTION : Rally cars from the front

This is the last stage for day one. Cars will go to Simola Estate for overnight and re-start of Day two.
SATURDAY - DAY 2
First Car leaves Simola Estate at 08h00
STAGE 6 - MTO CONCORDIA 1st car : 08h21 Stage 22.33km GPS : S34º00.988' E23º05.425'
You will see the cars below you from the start in an amphitheatre atmosphere.
From Knysna town go straight on at robot to Waterfront road and turn Right at the next robot to (Ou

The following Stages are repeats of Fridays Stages 2 to 4. Follow Friday's Instructions
STAGE 7 - KARATARA 2 - (SAME AS STAGE 4) 1st car : 09h25 Stage 18.22km
From Simola stage return to robot and turn RIGHT on N2 and continue towards George.
Just before Sedgefield turn RIGHT to Ruigtevlei/Karatara.
At T junction turn right and follow stage 4 instructions from 13.15
STAGE 9 - BEERVLEI (SAME AS STAGE 3) 1st car : 12h17 Stage 18.86km
From Karatara stage return to Stop and turn RIGHT and continue towards Beervlei through Hoogekraal
pass for 14km and turn right to Beervlei.
14.70 Follow stage 3 instructions from hereon
STAGE 10 - CONCORDIA (SAME AS STAGE 6) 1st car : 14h30 Stage 22.33km
Return to Simola and follow instructions for stage 6
END SATURDAY - DAY 2
END OF RALLY
THE PODIUM FINISH WILL BE HELD AT SIMOLA ESTATE WHERE THE WINNERS WILL BE ANNOUNCED IN
THE PARKING AREA AT ABOUT 15h45
